How You Can Help

Volunteer... Collaborative Projects... Grants & Donations

At PIER, we get by with a little help from our friends...  and you can become a friend!  Click for Volunteer Salute, a slideshow of our incredible friends and how they helped -- and get ideas how you can join the fun.

IDEAS:  Read with children: lead arts, crafts, dance, theater, photography, and music workshops; tutor in math and science (Spanish or English); coach volleyball, soccer, baseball, jump rope, or other sport.  We also need administrators, marketers, handymen, seamstresses, carpenters -- There is a place for almost everyone.

Teachers (especially with ESL experience) are desperately needed -- short-term or long-term volunteer placemetns are available. PIER is also open to the possibility of working with researchers or graduate students seeking to conduct pilot programs or studies where mutual benefits can be achieved both for PIER and /or the community of Roatan as well as the individual.

Make an in-kind donation

We always need school supplies, arts & crafts materials, children's books, and teacher supplies.  Some PIER Friends have looked to their community for help:

  • Asking their local school to donate used textbooks
  • Sponsoring a Kids' Collection Box at the end of a school year so children can donate their left over school supplies
  • Sponsoring a community Book Drive
  • Hosting a fundraiser and use funds to buy school supplies, math manipulatives, arts & crafts kits, teacher supplies, science kits and educational games
  • Asking their company to donate new or used computers (XP or higher is necessary to support the e-learning software used by PIER)

Donate funds

PIER depends on its generous supporters to continue providing educational support to the community.  No donation is too small or too large.  We are currently seeking funding support for our new Job Training & Placement Center which is expected to open in 2012.  Our operating budget for 2010 was approximately $30,000 (USD) and is expected to nearly double with the expansion of this new program.  Click here to read our most recent financial report for more details.
